What are EPS boxes?

An EPS box consists of expanded polystyrene. This material contains millions of tiny air chambers that together ensure an exceptionally high insulation value. The boxes are sturdy but at the same time very light, which reduces transport costs and facilitates handling. The EPS box is available in various sizes, with or without a lid, and can be combined with gel packs or dry ice as required.

Types of refrigerated boxes

At Cooled Solutions we offer a wide range of EPS boxes in different formats and capacity sizes - from compact boxes to large variants. This ensures that you will always find a suitable solution for your product and required volume.

For each EPS box model, we clearly indicate how many pieces fit on a standard pallet. This makes it easy to plan your logistics efficiently and get the most out of your storage and transport capacity. This way, you combine optimum insulation with practical solutions and cost savings.

Advantages EPS boxes

Excellent thermal insulation

EPS (expanded polystyrene) is known for its high insulation value. Thanks to the millions of closed air cells in the material, an EPS box offers long-term protection against heat and cold. This guarantees a stable temperature during transport. It makes an EPS box ideal for transporting temperature-sensitive products, such as refrigerated food, medicines or lab samples. In combination with refrigerants, a constant temperature of 2-8°C or even -20°C can be maintained, even without active cooling.

Lightweight material, lower transport costs

A key advantage of EPS is its extremely low weight. That means lower shipping costs and smart transport. Moving the boxes is easy. Moreover, it is also easy for on-site couriers to lift the boxes. That makes it ideal for both internal use and last-mile delivery.

Shock-absorbing and dimensionally stable

EPS boxes are insulating and protective. They absorb shocks and vibrations during transport, so the contents are well protected from damage. This is useful, especially if you work with fragile products such as glass vials, fish or pharmaceuticals.

Hygienic and moisture-resistant

The closed-cell structure of EPS is water-repellent and makes the boxes impervious to dirt and bacteria. This makes EPS boxes excellent for applications where hygiene is essential, such as in healthcare or fresh food. Moreover, it prevents liquids - such as melt water or condensation - from leaking out of the box.

Logistically efficient

We indicate for each product how many pieces fit on a standard pallet, so you can easily calculate and plan. This optimises your storage space and the efficiency of your transport.

Cost-effective

Compared to alternative insulation packaging, EPS boxes offer an excellent price-performance ratio. They are economical to buy, easy to use and deliver reliable performance.

Sector-specific applications

EPS boxes are used in numerous industries for their versatility, insulating capacity and logistical efficiency. Each industry has specific requirements in terms of temperature control, hygiene and transport safety. This is precisely why EPS packaging is widely applicable. Below, we explain the most important applications per sector.

Food industry

For manufacturers and distributors of perishables, EPS boxes are the standard. They keep products at 0-8°C or -20°C for long periods, with or without active cooling. Think of meat processors, wholesalers and fresh specialists.

Pharmacy & healthcare

Healthcare facilities, pharmacies and laboratories use EPS packaging to safely transport medication, blood samples and vaccines. Combined with validated refrigerants, the temperature remains within the desired range.

Fisheries & seafood

Fresh fish requires fast, well-insulated shipping. EPS boxes offer excellent protection against leakage and temperature fluctuations - indispensable for fish exporters and fishing ports.

Flower industry

Flowers are vulnerable to heat and dehydration. EPS boxes ensure cut flowers and young plants arrive at the customer or auction in optimal condition.

E-commerce & meal boxes

Webshops and delivery services use EPS boxes to keep food boxes and chilled products fresh right to the front door, without expensive refrigerated trucks.
